To Quicken Inc’s credit, since Intuit was taken over by H.I.G. I have been a Quicken user for many years and I know that I would prefer being able to choose. It is up to the customer to decide which is best for them. The subscription is annual with a lower cost but the higher priced purchase option still exists. They offer both a subscription service and purchase option. Perhaps the subscription could be an option much like Microsoft does with its Office product.
